Usher syndrome
It is a rare genetic disease that is one of the leading causes of deafblindness and it has three variants. It is characterized by the combination of deafness or hearing impairment and gradual loss of vision, which can also be accompanied by problems of balance. The visual impairment is due to a condition called retinitis pigmentosa, which is a progressive degeneration of the retina and its ability to send images to the brain. Retinitis pigmentosa is manifested initially with night blindness and tunnel vision. In the terminal phase you may also occur the loss of central vision.
